China’s star skater Wu Dajing won gold in the men’s 500 meters on Thursday， setting a world record time of 39.584 seconds， beating South Korea’s Hwang Dae-heon and winning the first gold for Team China at PyeongChang 2018.

With the gold medal， Wu becomes the first Chinese man to win an Olympic short track gold medal. The 23-year-old Olympic champion is already looking forward to his home Olympics.

Short Track Speed Skating originated  in Canada around 1880s， when some of Canada’s speed skating enthusiasts often have hockey practice in the indoor field， and resulting indoor speed skating race. In the early 20th century， this competition was gradually carried out in Europe and the United States. In 1992， it was listed as an official event for the Winter Olympic Games.

Short track speed skating is a form of competitive ice speed skating. In competitions， multiple skaters skate on an oval ice track with a length of 111.12 meters. The rink itself is 60 meters  long by 30 meters wide， which is the same size as an international-sized ice hockey rink. There are the men’s 500 meters （1994 included）， 1000 meters（1992 included）， 5000-meter relay（接力赛）（1992 included），  women’s 500 meters （1992 included）， 1000 meters（1994 included）， 3000-meter relay（1992 included）and 1500 meters（2002 included）.

Short track speed skating was introduced to China in 1981. In February 1982，  at the Beijing Capital Stadium， the first National Short Track Speed Skating competition training was held. Since 1983，  it was listed as one of the events for the annual national competitions and the National Winter Games by the National Sports Commission.
